Hanwha Group has started helping local communities by installing Photo Voltaic systems for welfare facilities in order to leverage its position as the global leader in the solar industry for corporate social responsibility.
The ‘Happy Sunshine Campaign’, which started in September 2011, is a unique CSR model whereby Hanwha combines eco-friendly technology with charity work. Hanwha hopes to start a new trend in CSR where corporations strive to promote both sustainability and social responsibility.
On December 21, Hanwha held a ceremony at the Asan Social Welfare Center in South Choongchung Province of Korea to celebrate the completion of its first Happy Sunshine PV system.
Hanwha plans to install a total of 20 PV systems for various welfare facilities by February 2012 and ultimately plans to expand the number of such PV installations to 500 within the next 10 years. Hanwha SolarOne will supply modules for these upcoming projects.
The Asan Social Welfare Center will save electricity expenses amounting to USD 25,000 every year using the PV system provided by Hanwha.
Hanwha also held an event to light up Christmas trees powered by PV systems to commemorate the installation of the first PV system and displayed wall paintings of a sun.
The wall painting showing a ”Sun of Hope” is another campaign initiated by Hanwha to vitalize the use of solar energy for a sustainable world. Many amateur artists participated in this campaign and drew various wall paintings in Seoul, Korea.
A spokeperson of Hanwha said, “Providing PV systems to welfare facilities for underprivileged is an eco-friendly charity movement and we hope this kind of social movement sponsored by Hanwha can set the foundation for a more sustainable and warm society.”
