Hanwha Group is carrying forward corporate social responsibility by providing PV systems at no cost to public welfare facilities with their built up experience and technologies in the solar business.
On December 21, Hanwha held a ceremony at the Asan Social Welfare Center in Chungcheongnam-do Province of Korea to celebrate the completion of its successful installation of the first PV system, in the presence of the members of Hanwha Corporation Asan center, Hanwha TechM, and Han Hyo-soo, the director of Asan Social Welfare Center, as well as his co-workers.
Hanwha Group’s ‘Happy Sunshine’ campaign will provide PV systems to community welfare centers and childcare centers all over Korea at no cost. Hanwha plans to install a total of 20 PV systems with production capacity of 170kW/h by February 2012 and ultimately, expand the number of such PV installations to 500 within the next 10 years investing 15 billion won.
Hanwha also held an event in which participants lighted up a Christmas tree powered by solar energy to celebrate the installation of the first PV system and displayed a mural of a sun drawn on the exterior wall of the Welfare Center. It was painted by volunteers from the Asan Social Welfare Center. The wall painting ”Sun of Hope” is a brand campaign initiated by Hanwha to vitalize the use of solar energy for a sustainable world. This campaign had a special meaning as many amateur artists participated to share their talents.
A spokesperson for Hanwha Group said, “Providing PV systems to welfare facilities for the underprivileged is an eco-friendly charity movement and we hope this kind of social movement can set the foundation for a more sustainable and warm society.”
Hanwha Group’s other affiliates are also extensively concentrating on CSR activities during December. While the entire members of the Hanwha Eagles delivered 20,000 briquettes to the underprivileged, Hanwha Corporation, Hanwha Trade, Hanwha E&C, Hanwha L&C, Hanwha Savings Bank, and many more affiliates made and delivered Kimchi to the elderly who live alone and to social welfare centers.
