Beijing, China, Aug. 30, 2013— Hanwha Group and Hanwha SolarOne today announced that they will donate a 30 kW solar PV system that provides continuous power support to Yuyangguan Town Hope Primary School in Wufeng County, Hubei province. As an integral part of Hanwha Group’s ‘Happy Sunshine’ campaign in China, this initiative, driven by Hanwha in partnership with the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME) and the China Youth Development Foundation, will improve the operational conditions of local schools while helping students understand the value of renewable energy and sustainable development. Mr. Keum Choon-Soo, President of Hanwha Group China Headquarters; Mr. Song Jeong Hoon, Vice President of Hanwha Group China Headquarters; Mr. Guo Qi, Vice President of Hanwha SolarOne; Mr. Tu Meng, General Secretary of the China Youth Development Foundation; Mr. Yang Chunlei, Deputy Secretary of the China Youth Development Foundation; Mr. Wang Guiqing, CCCME Vice Chairman; and Mr. Sun Guangbin, Secretary of CCCME’s Solar Energy & PV Products Branch, attended today’s inaugural signing ceremony.
Commissioned by Hanwha Group, Hanwha SolarOne (Qidong) Co., Ltd. will design and install the 30 kW distributed rooftop PV system for the Yuyangguan Town Hope Primary School. Hanwha SolarOne will also provide the school with comprehensive operation and maintenance training. The project, expected to be completed by November 2013, will yield an estimated 40,000 kW of solar energy to the Yuyangguan Town Hope Primary School.
This donation represents the first time Hanwha Group has brought together solar power, the world’s energy hope for the future, and Hope Schools, China’s education hope for the future. Mr. Keum Choon-Soo, President of Hanwha Group China Headquarters said during the signing ceremony, “It’s our honor to brighten China’s Hope Schools with Hanwha technology and bring sustainable benefit to schools in remote areas of China. In the future, we will continue to act as a proactive corporate citizen by engaging in more public welfare programs with local philanthropic organizations and trade associations.”
Mr. Tu Meng, General Secretary of the China Youth Development Foundation said, “Hanwha’s donation is as unique as it is beneficial. This is the first time for a company to donate and install PV equipment for a Hope School, providing them with a reliable power supply. We hope that the ‘2013 Project Hope’ program expands to include a greater number of Hope Schools and corporate sponsors.”
Mr. Wang Guiqing, Vice Chairman of CCCME agreed with Mr. Tu Meng, saying, “Hanwha Group’s donation underscores the strength of the PV industry; this campaign not only demonstrates PV providers’ unfaltering commitment to corporate citizenship in China but serves as an inspiration to the industry as a whole. We hope that more corporations in this field draw upon their diverse strengths and technological innovations to help people in need.”
Hanwha Group is dedicated to supporting children’s education while fostering a greater understanding of sustainable development and renewable energy. Since ‘Happy Sunshine’ began in 2011, Hanwha has donated PV equipment to welfare and childcare centers across Korea as well as the Osterbek School in Hamburg, Germany and Taneichi kindergarten in Hirono-cho, Japan to give more children light for their studies.
